The Board of Education of Hay Springs Public Schools District #3 held its regular meeting on November 11, 2013 at the school cafeteria. Notice of the said meeting was published in the October 23, 2013 edition of the Sheridan County Journal Star. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Langford. Posting for Open Meeting Law was pointed out. All motions received unanimous approval unless otherwise stated. Present – Matt Anderson, Mike Hunzeker, Brenda Johnson, Miriam Kearns, Everette Langford, and Marilyn Reed. Superintendent Pummel was also present. High School graduation is set for Saturday, May 17th at 2 p.m. The following auditorium repairs are scheduled but not completed: ceiling tile replacement, rewiring of the fire alarm system and installation of the heating/cooling system has yet to be completed. The majority of parents attended Parent-Teacher conferences. Those that didn’t attend, were contacted. The Gordon Lions Club came and screened students’ hearing, weight, blood pressure, and vision. If there were concerns, a letter was sent home to the parent(s). Member Johnson asked about the possibility of the bidding or opening of spots for parking during football games. A motion was made by Johnson and seconded by Kearns to approve the minutes of October 14, 2013 regular meeting. A motion was made by Reed and seconded by Anderson to approve the agenda of the November 11, 2013 meeting. Langford and Anderson attended the Lister-Sage board meeting. Brad Johnson was appointed to the Lister board. The weight equipment that was purchased from Bridgeport has been delivered. Defibrillators cost $1850 not including the battery and case. Mr. Pummel will get quotes and get them ordered. There will be one ordered for both the school and the Lister-Sage buildings. A joint meeting with the Lister-Sage board will be held on December 9th at 6:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Hay Springs will stay 8-man for the next 2-year cycle (2013-14 & 2014-15) of football. A motion was made by Hunzeker and seconded by Kearns to approve the annual school district budget as presented. A motion was made by Anderson and seconded by Johnson to approve the bills and payroll as presented.
