The Board of Education of Hay Springs Public Schools District #3 held its regular meeting on March 9, 2015 at the school cafeteria. Notice of the said meeting was published in the February 11, 2015 edition of the Sheridan County Journal Star. Called to order at 7:01 p.m. by President Hunzeker. Matt Anderson, Mike Hunzeker, Brenda Johnson, Miriam Kearns, Everette Langford and Marilyn Reed. Superintendent Pummel was also present. All motions received unanimous approval unless otherwise noted. Mr. Pummel reviewed legislative bills pertaining to school districts that are currently on the floor. All school district staff is required to take at least one hour of suicide prevention training each year. Larel Reimann reviewed the technology plan with the board. The plan includes the purchase of new business/accounting software, hardware and software purchases to update the current networking system and firewall, new teacher laptops, and student laptops to continue our 1:1 student laptop program. A motion was made by Johnson and seconded by Kearns to purchase the sonic wall licensing and the new business/accounting software. The remaining items will be discussed at the April meeting. Marx reported that the academic planner in Infinite Campus has been updated and the GPA is showing. Several scholarships have been awarded to students. Scholarship opportunities continue to come in. Several students participated in Oregon Trail Honor Band at Doane College. Quinn Tiensvold reported that the Oregon Trail Honor Band was an awesome experience. She attended along with Kathrin Roberts, Jen Scherbarth, Daniel Hunzeker, and Brittany Ferguson. A motion was made by Reed and seconded by Anderson to approve the minutes of the February 9, 2015 regular board meeting and the February 23, 2015 special board meeting as presented. A motion was made by Reed and seconded by Kearns to approve the agenda of the March 9, 2015 meeting. A transportation questionnaire for parents was reviewed and will be mailed out this week. Kearns reported that school staff are expected to pay the membership if they are using the building for personal use. The board suggested Lister possibly charge a basketball league fee, summer usage fee, as well as the yearly fee. A motion was made by Langford and seconded by Johnson to approve the resignation of Mrs. Alberta Olson. The board accepts her resignation with regret and thanks her for her 43 years of service. A motion was made by Langford and seconded by Johnson to approve the bills and payroll as presented. A motion was made by Johnson and seconded by Reed to go into executive session at 8:00 p.m. to discuss personnel. Hunzeker repeated the motion. A motion was made by Anderson and seconded by Langford to return to open session at 9:04 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 9:04 p.m. on a motion by Langford and second by Anderson.
