The Sheridan County Board of Equalization met in regular session at 9 A.M. in the Commissioners Office, Courthouse. All members present. Kling stated that the meeting would be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Nebraska Open Meeting Act a copy of which is available on the guest desk. Andersen made a motion to accept the agenda. Krotz seconded the motion. All voted aye. Krotz made a motion to approve the minutes of 1-11-2016. Andersen seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
County Treasurer Peg Sones presented the board with an Application for Exemption for Motor Vehicle Tax on two vehicles owned by Northeast Panhandle Substance Abuse Center. The board noted that a notice of hearing was posted in the Sheridan County Journal Star. With no one present for testimony, Andersen made a motion to authorize Chairman Kling to sign the application for exemption for NEPSAC for tax exemption on a 2000 Buick and a 2009 Ford. Krotz seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
Assessor Amanda Lane presented the board with several correction sheets for approval. Sandra Johnson was granted a Homestead Exemption after the tax list was ran. Gary Brehmer had a clerical error. Julie Alcorn & Cindy Richardson Life Estate Janet Waddill clerical error. Stephan William Riggs, Shirley E Swick and Thomas J Tuchek all were granted Homestead Exemptions after the tax list was ran. Union Equipment Finance LLC has personal property taxed in Sheridan County and should have been taxed in Garden County. City of Rushville and City of Hay Springs have airport hangers and building that should be tax exempt per Statute 3-147. Andersen made a motion to correct all the above listed tax list corrections. Krotz seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
Lane presented the board with more Permissive Exemptions for review. Andersen made a motion to approve two exemptions for the ABOUT Group for Religious Organization and a Partial for American Legion Post #161 and to deny the bar portion of the American Legion Post #161 due to alcohol being sold more than 20 hours per week. Krotz seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
The board visited with Lane about property values. Lane stated that her office is reviewing all rural properties and working on the cities and are seeing major increases.
Andersen made a motion to designate the county website (http://www.sheridancountyne.com) as the primary means of notifying the public of meeting dates, times and places for the Board of Equalization. Krotz seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
