Commissioners Minutes May 9, 2016

The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners met in regular session at 9:30 A.M. in the Commissioners Office, Courthouse.  All members present.  Kling stated that the meeting would be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Nebraska Open Meeting Act a copy of which is available on the guest desk.  Andersen made a motion to accept the agenda.  Krotz seconded the motion.  All voted aye.  Krotz made a motion to approve the minutes of 4-25-2016.   Andersen seconded the motion.  With a roll call vote all voted aye.

Road Superintendent Kuester reported to the board that the transmission on one of the CAT motor graders has failed.  The cost of the rebuild will be around $25,000.  Kuester informed the board that his budget will cover it.

City of Rushville is wanting some crushed rock out of the Tallon pit and has asked the County to haul.   The city is not equipped to haul rock with their small trucks.  Kuester likes to work with the cities and help each other out.  The board was fine with it.

GIVE Director Jeannette Graber, Veteran’s Service Officer Gary Sones, Building and Grounds Superintendent Dwaine Sones and Road Superintendent Kuester all visited with the board about the Counties policy on vacation time carry-over.  No decision made.

Veteran Service Officer Gary Sones informed the board that the Veteran Service Committee has authorized him to ask for bids for a 6 or 7 passenger van.  The board recommended the State bid.  Sones will look into it.  

GIVE Director Jeannette Graber asked for the appointment of three new members of the GIVE Advisory Board.  Andersen made a motion to appoint Norma Burnham, Cliff Rininger and Linda Strasburger to the GIVE Advisory Council.  Krotz seconded the motion.  With a roll call vote all voted aye.  

At 10:50 A.M. Krotz made a motion to go into executive session with Gyna Gordon for a performance review and to discuss personnel matters.  Andersen seconded the motion.  With a roll call vote all voted aye.

At 11:15 A.M. Krotz made a motion to come out of executive session with no decisions being made.  Andersen seconded the motion.  With a roll call vote all voted aye.  

Krotz made a motion to remove Gordon from her introductory period.  Andersen seconded the motion.  With a roll call vote- Andersen-nay , Krotz and Kling aye.  

Krotz made a motion to increase Gordon’s wage to $10.50/hour.  Kling seconded the motion.  With a roll call vote-Andersen nay, Krotz and Kling aye.

Building Superintendent Dwaine Sones reported that an air-conditioner unit in the Sheriff’s Office will need immediate repair.  

The board conducted a quarterly jail inspection.
