The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners met in regular session at 9 A.M. in the Commissioners Office, Courthouse. All members present. Andersen stated that the meeting would be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Nebraska Open Meeting Act a copy of which is available on the guest desk. Krotz made a motion to accept the agenda. Paul seconded the motion. All voted aye. Paul made a motion to approve the minutes of 10-23-2017. Krotz seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
The board audited and approved claims.
Mark Masterton, member of the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (NIRMA) met with the board to thank them for the continued participation in the insurance pool and to answer any questions the board may have. Sheridan County has been a member of NIRMA since its creation in 1988.
Road Superintendent Tom Kuester reported that a recent gravel pile collapse caused about $2,600 in damage to a frontend loader. A claim has been filed with the insurance company.
Kuester reported that the roadside mowing costs will be assessed against some 35 miles of county road. The board will set the mowing hearing next week.
Sherry Retzlaff of the Gordon/Rushville School District presented the grant application to the Nebraska Crime Commission for $18,524 to the board for signature. The grant will help fund the School Resource Officer. Paul made a motion to approve the grant application for the 2018 Community based Juvenile Services Aid Grant. Krotz seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
Jim Gardner of Gardner, Loutzenhiser & Ryan presented the Financial Report and Audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017. The board accepted the audit a copy of which is available for review in the office of the County Clerk.
Rick Burleigh presented the board a resolution for subdivision of land in Section 35, Township 33, Range 43 as a site for a rural residence. Paul made a motion to approve Resolution #2017-22 allowing the subdivision of 5.20 acres. Krotz seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
Clerk of the District Court Carol Stouffer led the board on a tour of the courtroom and the upper floor of the Courthouse. Stouffer pointed out a number of renovations for consideration.
The board noted that they had visited with Dwaine Sones and that the janitorial service has started and they will present a reviewed contract amount to include the Extension Office.
