Break-ins, vehicle thefts continue in Gordon

According to the City of Gordon, in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 20, Gordon Police Officers responded to a possible burglary in progress near the 200 block of North Pine Street.

Witnesses advised the officers that a vehicle that had been stolen from the 200 block of North Pine Street was seen heading west on West 2nd Street. Witnesses also informed law enforcement that a second suspect vehicle was located in the alley between North Pine and North Maple Street.

Gordon Officers observed a silver Chevy pickup truck in the alley. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, resulting in a pursuit that led one Gordon Officer north on Highway 27 toward South Dakota. Oglala Sioux Tribal Police took over the pursuit in South Dakota.

The pursuit ended approximately 10 miles east of Pine Ridge, S.D. OST Police apprehended the two male occupants of the suspect vehicle, both of whom are juveniles.

During the pursuit, another officer recovered a stolen vehicle that is believed to be related to the incident. The vehicle contained stolen property from a separate burglary that occurred earlier the same night.

A second stolen vehicle was recovered near Pine Ridge on Monday, August 21. That vehicle is also believed to be related to this incident, which remains under investigation.

If you have any information, or if you notice any suspicious activity, please contact the Gordon Police Department at 308-282-0308. Residents are reminded to remove valuables and keys from vehicles and to keep them locked. Homes should be kept secured as well.
