GRHS One Act named Western Trails Conference Champs

The Gordon-Rushville One Act students presented "The Balkan Women" as they competed at the Western Trails Conference in Bridgeport on Tuesday, November 21 and won the conference trophy. Three actors were also recognized for all-conference. Rylan Hurd and Berklie Haag received supporting actor awards and Zak Wellnitz received the best-actor award.

The Mustangs competed against Bayard, Morrill, Bridgeport, Mitchell, Hemingford, and Kimball.

Gordon-Rushville High School One Act Director Candie Johnson said the cast did an excellent job. Despite some lighting issues, they received critiques that will be addressed ahead of districts. With the conference win, the cast turns their attention to Districts, which will be on Friday, December 1 in Gothenburg.

To advance to state, the Mustangs must win districts. “We will be working very hard to accomplish that,” wrote Johnson.

She said districts competition is difficult, but the winner often places well at state. Johnson said, “No matter what happens, I have no doubt that these students will give it their best shot.”
