Criss keeps Strong Insurance in the family

Criss keeps Strong Insurance in the family

Strong Insurance has offered all forms of insurance for 86 years and Ben Criss will serve as the new owner and fourth generation in his family to run the business.

Established in 1932, Strong Insurance offered a variety of insurance coverages with a staff who was dependable and honest. Criss is the grandson of the previous business owner Dean Strong and said dependability and honesty are the two words that are the fundamentals of running a business he learned from Strong.

Strong owned the business from 1972 through January 2018 when he passed away. During the past two years, Criss worked alongside Strong and recently received his insurance license. Since last August Criss studied to earn his license as Strong’s health declined. He traveled to Scottsbluff to take the exam and received his license on January 5, the day after Strong’s passing.

As Criss sorts out the paperwork to become the owner, he said the most difficult aspects of running the business is taking over Strong’s work and picking up the slack. “I’m excited and nervous to keep the business going,” said Criss.

Strong Insurance has withstood the test of time offering all forms of insurance in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming. The business hours will remain 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. but closed between noon and 1 p.m. for lunch.

As Criss keeps Strong Insurance in the family, he plans to honor the practices of the business and offer the community dependable and honest insurance.
