Residents in the communities of Crawford, Whitney, Chadron, Rushville, Hay Springs and Pine Ridge could soon notice some activity in the alleys behind their homes.
As part of a preventative maintenance program to maintain reliability of electric power, Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) routinely conducts power pole inspections. These inspections are scheduled to begin on June 1st and will continue in these communities until early August.
NPPD has hired a company named Osmose Utilities Services to conduct the inspections. Inspectors will likely be wearing hard hats and driving four-wheelers as they move from pole to pole in alleys. After a visual inspection, the process consists of digging 18-inches deep around the base of the pole and then drilling a hole into the structure to test the pole’s quality.
The power poles in these communities were last tested in 2002.
