For the past month, Gordon has had a rash of vehicle break-ins, culminating in at least 12 break-ins on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Gordon Police Chief Jeff Brewer said that his department is using all its resources to find the perpetrators, though they have no leads yet. Despite the thefts, there has been no actual breaking into vehicles: all the vehicles were unlocked or had open windows.
Brewer said there had also been a few unlocked residences broken into, where the thief or thieves reached in and grabbed whatever was closest, like vacuum cleaners.
For most of the month, the break-ins were small and limited, with only one or two vehicles in one night per week, with mostly loose change stolen. On Aug. 4, the police reported larger items, like power tools, stolen.
Brewer reminds the public to lock their vehicles and homes.
