New Nebraska Supreme Court justice to take ceremonial oath

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A newly appointed justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court will be sworn into office this week at the Capitol.

Judge Stephanie Stacy will take the oath of office on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in a ceremony in the Warner Chamber. Stacy was appointed by Gov. Pete Ricketts to fill a vacancy in the first judicial district, consisting of Lancaster and Seward counties.

Stacy replaces Justice Kenneth Stephan, who retired on July 1. She has been a judge since 2011. She previously was a partner at a Lincoln law firm and taught at the University of Nebraska College of Law.

Chief Justice Michael Heavican will administer the oath of office.
