Chadron - Incident Commander, Brian Daunt of the U.S. Forest Service announced that the Spotted Tail Fire is 100% contained and a transition to incident control at the Pine Ridge Ranger District level occurred at 3:00 p.m. today. Firefighters and resources have been released throughout the day for reassignment to other fires, or to travel to their home stations. He extended gratitude and appreciation to the Volunteer Fire Departments and all other cooperators for their excellent, professional work on the fire.
Daunt said crews will continue to monitor and patrol the burned area for several days, and smoke may be visible from the interior before gradually subsiding. Weather patterns are expected to be cooler with higher humidity.
The Spotted Tail Fire is five miles south of Chadron on Forest Service System lands and burned 83 acres since it started late Saturday morning.
