Sherrie Arce, age 67, passed away Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at Custer Regional Senior Center in Custer, S.D.  She was born in Gordon, Neb., to Fredrick and Norma Ehlers. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Alice Turnbull of Chadron, Neb., will be held on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Chamberlain Chapel, in Chadron, Neb.

Alice was born on March 29, 1932, in Gordon, Neb.

She was 85.

Funeral services for Richard A. Hoffman of Gordon, Neb., was held on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Chamberlain Chapel, in Chadron, Neb., with Bob Pickering officiating.

Mr. Hoffman passed away on Nov. 23, 2017, at home in Gordon, Neb.

Richard was born on April 27, 1947, in Alliance, Neb.

He was 70.

Ruth Helen (Fuchser) Walgren

Ruth Helen (Fuchser) Walgren passed way Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Crest View Care Center in Chadron, Neb. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Hay Springs, Neb. 

Ruth Helen was born Dec. 16, 1921 – the youngest of three daughters of Ernest and Ada Violet Fuchser. Ruth and her two sisters, Evelyn and Irene, were raised on the Fuchser family ranch, the Half Circle O, near Irwin, Neb., approximately 25 mi. east of Gordon


Michael Todd Hunzeker

Michael Todd Hunzeker, age 58, passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, in Hay Springs, Neb.

Mike was born April 10, 1959, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Lloyd and Mary Ann Hunzeker received the joyous call that they had a baby boy, and picked him up and took him home to Hay Springs, Neb.

Mike attended school and graduated in 1977 from Hay Springs High School.  He received a Regents Scholarship to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and joined Air Force ROTC.  Mike graduated from the


Melvin Antone Roffers

Melvin Antone Roffers of Rushville, Neb., passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at his home in Rushville, Neb.

Melvin was born Oct. 13, 1931, in Rushville, Neb., to Antone and Johanna (Drabbels) Roffers, the youngest of four children. He lived with his family in Rushville, Neb., and graduated from Rushville Highs School in 1948.

On Jan. 4, 1951, he married Dorothy (Chick) Butterfield and to this union three children were born; Connie Roffers, Rushville City Clerk, Peg Sones, Sheridan County


Yvonne Parks

Yvonne Parks of Gordon, Neb., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at Country Side Care in Gordon, Neb.

Yvonne was born on Nov. 18, 1937, to Earl and Laura (Dean) Forster in Gordon Neb. She was raised on the family farm. She attended Pleasant Hill school and graduated from Gordon High school in 1956.

On Nov. 3, 1957, Yvonne was married to her one and only Joseph Paul Parks Jr. Within their marriage, she and Joseph had 9 children who they loved dearly. The family lived in Kadoka and


Mark Emmett Colwell

In memory of Mark Emmett Colwell who was born on January 6, 1929 to George Everett Colwell and Mary Margaret (Kearns) Colwell and passed on to heaven peacefully on November 14, 2017 at Gordon Countryside Care. He was the eldest of nine children where they were born and raised near Whiteclay, Nebraska into a life of farming and ranching. His siblings include Doris(Tallon), Floyd, Helen (Crist), Charles, James, Roy, Jerry and Kay (Ehrmann).

Jerry Wayne Parks

Jerry Wayne Parks age 52 of Rushville, Neb., was born on March 13, 1965, to Yvonne (Forster) and Joseph Parks Jr. in Kadoka, S.D. Jerry passed away on Nov. 13, 2017, at the Gordon Memorial Hospital after suffering from ALS.

Jerry attended rural and public schools in the Gordon area, graduating from Gordon High School in 1983.

On July 15, 2017, Jerry married the love of his life, Deborah Hilliker. On the day of his wedding, Jerry also gained a cherished son, Brandon Hilliker.

Cecilia Linenbrink

Sister Cecilia Linenbrink, OSF, entered her eternal reward on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017.  At 92 years young, Cecilia (born Clara Elizabeth) celebrated 73 years as a Sister of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity of Sacred Heart Province.  Cecilia was born on Dec. 3, 1924, in Callaway, Neb., to Henry and Margaret Linenbrink.  She is the second oldest in a family of 13 children, growing up on a farm in northern Nebraska in the midst of the Dust Bowl days of the 1930s.  A


Irvin Paul Reeves

Irvin Paul Reeves, 81 passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, in his home at Meadowlark Hills.

Irvin was born in Rushville, Neb., to the late Josephine and Willie Reeves. Four brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

He married the love of his life Darlene Faye Bishop on Aug. 31, 1957. They were married 60 years.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; four daughters and three son-in-laws, Diane and John Ahern, Sierra and Max Mayfield, Debbie Pritchett and Denise and Luke Mitchell; five


Robert J. Mercer


Robert was born on Thanksgiving Day 1929 in Gordon, Neb., the eldest child of two teachers, John and Helen Mercer. His father was later the High School Principal and Superintendent of Schools, so he had to be a good student. While living in Gordon, Robert had several jobs, including delivering newspapers (the Omaha World Herald) and special delivery mail, working at a grocery store, tending and harvesting a large Victory Garden, and working, in the summer of 1944, on a farm
