The Hawks took on a set of cats this week when they traveled to the valley area for games against the Morrill Lions and the Bayard Tigers. Tuesday the Hawks lost a 16 point game to the Lions 49-33, and Friday night dropped a lopsided 54-19 contest to the Tigers of Bayard.
Tuesday night, both teams started slowly with the Hawks getting their first basket of the first quarter with just a couple ticks left on the clock to trail 9-2 at the end of one. Morrill had a scoring explosion in the second quarter dropping in 22 points to hold a 31-7 lead at the half. The Hawks were able to make some adjustments in the second half to outscore the Lions 26-18 but were unable to cut into the Lions first half lead. The Hawks were paced by two players in double figures. Regg Strotheide and Jordan Encinia led the Hawks with 13 and 10 points respectively. The Hawks’ Matt Hessler grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the Hawks in that category.
