Gordon-Rushville started slow against a red hot Bennett County boys basketball team Friday evening in Martin, S.D., for the final game of a boys and girls double header, and never recovered, falling 66-42.
The Warriors scored the games first six points before rolling to a 19-7 first quarter ending lead. Gordon-Rushville’s first points were a Trevor Standing Soldier three pointer, but Bennett County ran off the next 10 points in the game. Cody Barker stopped the draught with a field goal, and Kyle Anderson finished off the first quarter scoring for the Mustangs.
In the second quarter, Bennett County put up 17 points to 12 for the Mustangs, putting them in a 17 point hole at the half.
Anderson scored four points and Chaz Piper three in the quarter to lead the Mustang scoring.
A 6-0 run to start the third for Bennett County extended the lead to 23, and the Warriors ended the third with a 58-31 lead.
Gordon-Rushville could not close the gap, falling 67-42. The Mustangs were paced by Trevor Standing Soldier with 10 points. Lex Haller added 7, Kyle Anderson 6, Sam Boldon 6, Gary Kaplan 3, Chaz Piper 3, Barry Toczek 2, Cody Barker 2, Brandon Bailey 2, Isaiah Little Moon 1.
Gordon-Rushville won the JV matchup, 28-23. Brandon Bailey notched 8 points, Kyle Anderson 5, Barry Toczek 5, Lex Haller 4, Sam Piper 2, Colton Wolken 2, Ben Wegner 2.
