The Valentine Badgers used a full court press and stingy half court defense to defeat the Lady Mustangs 68-37 on Friday night in Gordon. The Badgers did an outstanding job of getting their hands in the air and clogging up the passing lanes all night long.
The first quarter was very close as the Mustangs had some trouble with the Badger press, but a three-pointer at the buzzer by Brandi Roth pulled the Mustangs back to within one point as they trailed 12-11.
The Badgers began to pull away in the second quarter as the full court pressure began to take its toll. The half ended with the Badgers leading 31-20.
Coming out of the half, the Badgers took control of the game as they scored 21 points in the third quarter compared to eight for the Mustangs. With the game out of reach, several younger players for both teams saw action and the game ended with Valentine winning big, 68-37.
Sara Marlatt paced the Mustang attack with 17 points, Brandi Roth added 11, Hali Sahr, 5, Denie Jacobsen, 2, and Ashton Sasse, 2.
