The Hawks wrestling team won three of their five dual competitions at Southeast, Wyoming on Saturday with team wins over Niobrara County, Morrill, and Southeast.
The Hawks defeated Niobrara County 30 to 27. Stevin Horrocks (220), Levi Ray (126), and Joey Johnson (132) all won their matches by pin. Chris Ray (120) and Jordan Houser (170)won their weight classes by forfeit while Jake Johnson and Kolten Marx were both defeated in their weight class.
The Hawks lost their dual against Mitchell 45 to 30. Chris Ray (120) lost a close 4-2 decision to Josh Zulkoski, Levi Ray (126), Joey Johnson (132), Jordan Houser (170), and Stevin Horrocks (220) won their matches by pins, while Jake Johnson (138) won by forfeit and Colton Snyder pinned Colton Marx at 160.
The Hawks got their second win with a 40-24 win over Morrill. Chris and Levi Ray won their matches by forfeit. Joey Johnson won a major decision 14-0 over Matt Unrein, Jake Johnson pinned Garrett Zweibel, Kolten Marx pinned Jackson Carlson and Jordan Houser and Stevin Horrocks won by forfeit.
Southeast was the Hawks’ third dual win of the day. The Hawks won the match-up 36-24. Three Hawks wrestlers won by forfeit while Joey Johnson pinned Sean Feagler in 1:03. Jordan Houser pinned Haden Grandy in 3:16 and Stevin Horrocks pinned Tanner Wyse in 1:28.
In the match against Bayard, the Hawks lost a 47-20 contest. Joey Johnson won a major decision 13-4 over Brandon Bowers. Jake Johnson lost by pin to Kyler Sides and Kolten Marx lost by pin to Allen Denton. Tristan Hunter defeated Jordan Houser 16-0 at 170 lbs., while Levi Ray and Stevin Horrocks won by pins in 29 seconds and 4:43 respectively.
The Hawks other win in the dual came when Chris Ray won a 13-0 decision over Robert Niezwaag. Keep in mind that I did not list the forfeits or double forfeits in the weight classes without wrestlers.
The Hawks will now be preparing for the District meet, which will be held February 8-9 at Sutherland.
