Lady Hawks go 2-1 last week

By Lisa Hughes

The Lady Hawks basketball team seems to be on a roll of sorts over the past couple weeks.  The Lady Hawks won two of their three games this past week and three of their last 5 contests.  The Lady Hawks opened play last week on Tuesday in Hyannis with a 62-54 victory over the Lady Longhorns.

The Lady Hawks got a fast start against the Lady Longhorns leading 18-9 at the end of the first quarter and 36-24 at the half.  The Lady Hawks had a strong third quarter to open the second half while holding the Lady Longhorns to just four points to extend that lead to twenty-nine with one quarter left to play.  The Lady Longhorns refused to go away though and made a valiant effort in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Hawks held on for the eight point win.

Elizabeth Roberts had a career game with 25 points and 10 rebounds.  Whitney Heiting and Stephanie Tlustos also finished in double figures with 16 and 12 points respectively.  Tlustos also added 7 steals.

Thursday night, the Lady Hawks hosted the always strong Lady Mustangs of Little Wound school in Kyle, South Dakota and ran into a buzzsaw, losing a 71-41 decision.

The Lady Mustangs, always a run and gun sort of team, raced out to a 15-5 first quarter lead and led 29-19 at the half.   The Lady Mustangs had another strong second half, adding to the Lady Hawks woes both offensively and defensively.  The Lady Mustangs outscored the Lady Hawks by 20 in the second half.

Stephanie Tlustos finished the game with a double-double for the Lady Hawks with 12 points and 15 rebounds.  Elizabeth Roberts finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds.  Frances Around Him led the Lady Mustangs with 19 points.
