Sheridan County wrestlers doing very well at district meets

The Gordon-Rushville Mustangs travelled to Southern Valley for the District C-4 wrestling tournament today, with all of the Mustangs continuing on to day two.

Garrett Shadbolt remains undefeated at 113 pounds, first pinning Ryan Weatherly in 1:36, then defeated Sam Hunt 7-5, advancing him to the semi-final round of the tournament. He will now face Keaton Gracey of Ainsworth tomorrow for a chance at the championship match.

At 120 pounds, Cole Witt won his first match of the tournament, pinning Nathan Spellman in 1:40. Witt then fell to Ely Sharkey by tech fall 15-0. Cole will now face Kam Jordan in the consolation bracket. Jordan lost his first match, then received a bye.

Shane Child’s hopes remain alive at 126 pounds after losing his first match to Jake Gregg by fall in 2:58, then pinning Hunter Dillon in 2:24. He will now face Kale Gideon in the consolation round.

Cody Darnell lost a hard fought first match to Cody Mueller of Mitchell 7-6, then received a bye. He will now face Sam Thompson in the consolation round.

Casey Glassgow will take on Andrew Abramson in the semi-final round tomorrow after pinning Joseph McNair of Ainsworth as time was running out in the match at 5:44, then narrowly defeating Tucker Bergquist 2-1.

Micah Scherbarth started off the tournament at 145 lbs. by pinning Austin Brown in 3:29. He then fell to Isaac Bergquist by fall in 3:47. He will now face Kieron Rice in the consolation round tomorrow.

Taylor Hood fell in his first match at 152 lbs. by fall to Colton Snyder in 3:26. After receiving a bye, he will now face Lawrence Schneider of Bridgeport in the consolation round.

Tristan Tuma started the tournament with a bye at 160 lbs. He then lost to Trey Rossman 8-5. Tomorrow he will face Henry Adams of Mitchell in the consolation round.

Ken Graham is in the consolation round at 170 lbs after a tough second round loss to Sage Gideon 8-6. Graham pinned Jared Denny in 4:38 in the first round. He will now face Austyn Ramm-Lech tomorrow.

Thomas Sandoz will face Caleb Akins in the semi-final round at 195 lbs. tomorrow. Sandoz started the tournament with a bye, then defeated Trevor Jensen, pinning him in 1:34.

The Mustangs’ final wrestler is Brice Stangle at 285 lbs. Brice fell to Bryan Shurigar in 1:07, then received a bye. He will now face Lane Richardson tomorrow in the consolation round.

The Hay Springs Hawks traveled to Sutherland today for the Class D-4 district wrestling tournament, with all of the Hawks also continuing on to day two.

Chris Ray will face Coleton Doetker in the semi-final round tomorrow after receiving a bye at 120 lbs. and then pinning Brennan Toner in 2:25.

Levi Ray has also advanced to the semi-final round at 126 lbs., receiving a bye, then pinning Sammi Niezwaag in 1:09. He will face Marc Cinnoco tomorrow.

Joey Johnson received a bye his first round at 132 lbs., then pinned Joe Kriz in 1:05 to advance to the semi-final round where he will face Brandon Bowers.

Jake Johnson received a bye his first round at 138 lbs. He then fell to Mark Hanson in 2:41. In the consolation round, Johnson pinned Devon Strunkmartin in 2:09. He will now face Rio McGinley tomorrow.

Kolten Marx received a bye at 160 before losing a close match to Gage Crowell 8-6. He will now face Frank Kohler in the consolation round tomorrow.

Jordan Houser has not yet had a match in the four-man 170 lb. bracket. The wrestling will begin with semi-final matches, with Houser pitted against Landan Fear of Sutherland.

Stevin Horrocks has advanced to the semi-finals at 220 lbs, receiving a bye in the first round, then pinning Deondre VanDeWater in 0:33. He will now face Taylor Alcorn of Crawford tomorrow.
