Norton qualifies for NCAA track championship

Chadron State College’s Alyssa Norton, Alex Graham and Charith Kapukotuwa have each qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships Thursday, March 7 through Saturday, March 9 at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Ala.

Norton, a junior from Rushville, is entered in the shot put. She enters the meet after posting the 18th best mark in Division II this season, throwing 46-feet, 5 ¾ inches.

 Norton will compete on Friday, March 8, at 3:30 p.m. and the preliminaries of the men’s 60-meters begin at 4 p.m. The finals of the 60-meter race is Saturday at 3:50 p.m.a

Norton, Graham and Kapukotuwa also headline the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region honorees for Chadron State.

The top five from each region in individual events qualify for the squad and a total of 1,061 student-athletes were honored by the USTFCCCA.
