Garrett Shadbolt takes first at O’Neill

All five members of the Sheridan County High School rodeo team competed at two rodeos in Bloomfield and O’Neill last weekend. The first rodeo was on Saturday at Bloomfield. Cody Darnell placed second in the tie down roping with a time of 10.43 seconds. The event was won by Tate Mathis of Atkinson with a time of 9.01 seconds. Brock Henry placed fourth in the steer wrestling with a time of 7.72 seconds. The event was won by Tanner Freeman of Dunning with a time of 4.68 seconds. Charmayne Strong was ninth in the goat tying with a time of 9.53 seconds. The event was won by Libby Winchell of Scottsbluff with a time of 7.48 seconds. Cody and his partner Riley Wakefield of O’Neill were seventh in the team roping with a time of 15.20 seconds. The event was won by Tate Mathis of Atkinson and his partner Reece Weber of Valentine with a time of 5.75 seconds.

On Sunday the team moved to O’Neill for the second rodeo of the weekend. Garrett Shadbolt was the big winner there. Garrett was first in the bareback riding with a score of 71 points. He was also third in the Saddle bronc riding with a score of 58. The event was won by Tristan Ecklund of Valentine with a score of 71 points. Charmayne Strong placed in two events, also. She was seventh in the goat tying with a time of 9.03 seconds. The event was won by Libby Winchell of Scottsbluff with a time of 7.75 seconds. Charmayne was eighth in the breakaway calf roping with a time of 4.18 seconds. The event was won by Sydney Armstrong of Grand Island with a time of 3.02 seconds. Cody Darnell and his team roping partner Riley Wakefield of O’Neill were second in the team roping with a time of 7.9 seconds. The event was won by Gunner Walker of Arthur and Curtis Welsh of Scottsbluff with a time of 7.43 seconds. 

Next the team goes to Nelson and Grand Island.
