Gordon-Rushville graduate Renen Sahr has qualified for the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida after finishing 6th in the GPAC.
The Midland University Warriors have been paired with No. 9 Faulkner (Ala.) and No. 24 Bethany (Kan.) in the first round of the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships at LPGA International on Tuesday, May 13. The three teams are scheduled to tee off at on the back nine at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and then will have a morning tee time of 7:50 a.m. the following day in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Renen Sahr: The sophomore was named to the 2014 All-GPAC Team and was a 2013 Honorable Mention. Sahr, a Gordon, Neb. native, owns four individual college titles, two runner-up finishes and a 75.59 scoring average. He has been a team captain for the past two seasons. Sahr finished in sixth place in the GPAC with a score of 305 over the four qualifying rounds in 2013-14.
Brady Vancura: The junior from Columbus, Neb. was named to the All-GPAC Team for the second straight season in 2014. Vancura has eight career collegiate Top 10 finishes, and one victory. He was the 2011 Nebraska Class B Champion, and owns a career scoring average of 79.18. Vancura finished in ninth in the GPAC with a score of 311 over the four qualifying rounds in 2013-14.
Clint Kracl: The Schuyler, Neb. native was named to the 2014 All-GPAC Team. Kracl, a sophomore, has four career collegiate Top 10 finishes with a scoring average of 78.61. He tied for 12th in the GPAC with a score of 314 in 2013-14.
Preston Walford: The freshman from Tekamah, Neb. was named a 2014 All-GPAC Honorable Mention. He has two Top 10 finishes in 2014, and a scoring average of 79.24. Walford finished in fourth place in the 2013 Nebraska Class C State Tournament. He tied for 12th in the GPAC with a score of 314 in 2013-14.
Taylor Wheatley: The Adair, Iowa native has been a three-year starter for the Warriors. Wheatley has five career collegiate Top 10 finishes, and one victory. The junior team captain has a scoring average of 80.89.
Head Coach Nick Swaney: A native of Blair, Neb., Swaney is in his fourth year at the helm of Midland’s golf team, and he was named the 2014 GPAC Coach of the Year. This will be his first National Championship appearance, and he has guided the Warriors to four career team wins. Swaney has coached four Scholar-Athlete award winners and five All-Conference selections.
Graduate Assistant Coach Baylor Falk: The Albany, Ore. native is in his first year as an assistant coach for the Warriors. Falk was a 2011 Midland University graduate, and member of the golf team.
