Tuesday afternoon, the Hay Springs track teams saw their first action of the season at the Gordon-Rushville Quad meet.
For the girls squad Brook Scherbarth was the Lady Hawks only champion in the shot put with a throw of 28’1 1/4”. Teammate Zoe Schneider was 2nd in the same event with a throw of 27’ 2 1/4”. Schneider also finished 4th in the discus with a throw of 72’1”.
Michaela Metcalf had a great day for the Lady Hawks finishing with three runner-up medals in the long jump, triple jump, and 800 meter run and also finishing 6th in the high jump.
Shaunna Hunter placed in three individual events and was a member of the 4th place mile relay team. Hunter finished 3rd in the 100 meter dash, 5th in the 200 meter dash, and 5th in the high jump. Other members of the relay were Whitney Heiting, Cydney Jancik, and Jennifer Scherbarth.
Jennifer Scherbarth placed in two events including 3rd in the 400 meter dash and 6th in the long jump. Kerisa Marx and Whitney Heiting rounded out the Lady Hawks placewinners. Marx was 3rd in the high jump with a jump of 4’4” and Heiting finished fourth in the long jump.
On the boys side, the Hawks had two champions. Stevin Horrocks won the 110 meter high hurdles in 16.6 and John Rotness won the high jump with a jump of 5’8”. Horrocks also finished 2nd in the 200 meter dash while Rotness was 5th in the discus. Rotness was also on the 2nd place mile relay team along with Joey Johnson, Chris Ray, and Austin Weyers.
Individually Austin Weyers finished 2nd in the long jump with a jump of 18’7” and 5th in the 100 meter dash. Jordan Houser helped the Hawks with a 2nd in the 400 meter dash and a 4th in the shot put. Joey Johnson finished the day with three individual placings with a 3rd in the 800 meter run, a 4th in the triple jump, and a 6th in the long jump.
Chris Ray rounded out the team scoring with a 6th place in the high jump. Teams competing were Bennett County, South Dakota, Cody-Kilgore, and Gordon-Rushville.
