The Sheridan County High School Rodeo team finished the regular season last weekend with rodeos in Mitchell, Harrison and Crawford. These were the last rodeos to earn points to carry into state. The top thirty contestants compete at state in each event.
At the rodeo in Mitchell on Friday, Charmayne Strong was fourth in the pole bending with a time of 22.748. The event was won by Jacey Jensen of Burwell with a time of 22.327. Jessica Bragg continued to do well in the goat tying placing ninth with a time of 9.00. The event was won by Libby Winchell who has totally dominated the goat tying this year. Cody Darnell earned two fifth place finishes. He placed fifth in the tie down roping with a time of 11.18 seconds. The event was won by Tristan Eklund of Valentine with a time of 9.810. He also placed fifth in the team roping with his pardner Riley Wakefield of Oneil with a time of 15.55. The event was won by Savannah Jamison of Ashby and Tanner Freeman of Duning with a time of 8.50 seconds.
At the rodeo in Harrison on Saturday the Sheridan County girls continued to do well in the goat tying. Jessica was third with a time of 8.45 seconds. Charmayne was seventh with a time of 9.39 seconds. The event was won by by Libby Winchell of Scottsbluff with a time of 8.29 seconds.
At Crawford on Sunday the contestants competed in the rain and freezing cold. The arena was muddy and conditions were less than ideal. They all competed to the best of their ability in the adverse conditions. Charmayne placed in two events, the pole bending and the goat tying. She was third in the goat tying with a time of 8.20 seconds. The event was won by Libby Winchell and Maddie Doerr of Creighton both with times of 8.05 seconds. Charmayne was also third in the pole bending with a time of 21.841 seconds. The event was won by Shawnee Stone-Swedburg of Hershey with a time of 21.159 seconds. Cody Darnell was ninth in the team roping with his pardner Riley with a time of 14.90 seconds. The event was won by Cooper White of Hershey and Levi Walter of Wray , Colorado with a quick time of 8.84 seconds.
The team will have next weekend off and will go to State Finals in Hastings June 18th through the 21st to see who comes out in the top four to represent Nebraska at The High School National Finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming the end of July.
