The Hawks track teams enjoyed some successes on Thursday, April 5 at the Mitchell Invite while competing against many larger schools including Alliance, Gering, Sidney, and Chadron to name a few.
The boys squad saw two boys placing in individual events and three others placing in a relay, and the girls squad had one individual placewinner and 5 others taking part in relays that placed.
The boys squad was led by Stevin Horrocks who finished 2nd in the 110 high hurdles in a time of :15.8, 3rd in the 300 intermediate hurdles in a time of :42.6 seconds and 5th in the high jump with a jump of 5’8”. Austin Weyers also placed in two events. He finished 5th in the long jump with a jump of 19’6 1/2” and 6th in the triple jump with a jump of 40’2”. Weyers was also a member of the 6th place mile relay team. Other relay team members were Chris Ray, Joey Johnson, and John Rotness.
For the girls, Jerilyn Scherbarth was the lone individual placewinner with a 5th place finish in the two mile. Scherbarth finished in 14:15.9. Jerilyn Scherbarth was also a member of the 4th place two mile relay team. Other team members were Kerisa Marx, Jenn Scherbarth, and Brittany Ferguson. The mile relay team consisting of Jenn Scherbarth, Whitney Heiting, Ferguson, and Cydney Jancik finished 6th in a time of 4:47.2.
