Nebraska Husker volleyball player and Gordon native Alicia Ostrander visited Gordon Elementary School on Friday to talk about playing at Nebraska and eating Chinese.
“I would do anything to be back in your guys’s seats right now,” she said at the program. “I miss elementary school.”
“I’ll trade you,” one kid said back.
Ostrander wanted to play at Nebraska since she watched the Huskers win the 2006 national championship. “I had big dreams of playing volleyball at Nebraska, so for me I worked really hard in extra time outside of practice developing skills,” she said.
When asked about her trip to China with the volleyball team, she said, “Everything was so busy there. There’s a lot more people in China than there is in Gordon, but mainly the food was different.
“It wasn’t as bad as maybe I thought, but after a few days of not eating very much you learn to like it.”
Ostrander will graduate next year with a degree in political science with an education minor. She wants to teach in high school after college, but hasn’t decided yet.
