High school rodeo season starts

Last weekend the Sheridan County High School Rodeo team consisting of senior Cati Stanko of Gordon, senior David Hinman of Hay Springs and sophomore Charmayne Strong of Rushville competed in two rodeos in McCook. It was the first two rodeos to start the spring season and earn points for state finals in June.

 

In the first rodeo, Cati placed third in the barrel race with a time of 16.069. The event was won by Brandy Brown of North Platte with a time of 15.599. Both Cati and Charmayne placed in the breakaway calf roping. Cati was fouth with a time of 3.8 seconds and Charmayne was tenth with a time of 5.45. The event was won by Tori Vineyard of Oshkosh with a time of 3.26 seconds.

Cati picked up where she left off last fall by winning the goat tying with a time of 8.26 seconds. Charmayne was seventh with a time of 10.69. Both Cati and Charmayne placed in the pole bending, also. Cati was second with a time of 21.085 and Charmayne was seventh with a time of 22.4 seconds. The event was won by Kaylie Haun of Mitchell with a time of 20.76.

David Hinman placed eighth in the tie down roping with a time of 17.540 seconds. The event was won by Tanner Stec of Bassett with a time of 11.85 seconds.

Cati Stanko was the All-Around Cowgirl for the first rodeo because she placed well in several events.

The second rodeo, Cati was fourth in the barrel race with a time of 15.872. The event was won by Kaylie Haun of Mitchell with a time of 15.626. Charmayne placed sixth in the goat tying with a time of 9.94 seconds. The event was won by Kelsey Knust of Verdigree with a time of 8.02 seconds. Cati won the pole bending with a time of 20.571 seconds.

David and his team roping pardner Tanner Stec of Bassett won second in the team roping with a time of 9.34 seconds. The event was won by Kelsey Knust and Tom Littell of Elm Creek with a fast time of 7.9 seconds.

This next weekend the team will be competing in rodeos in Hyannis and Arthur. Good luck David, Cati and Charmayne.
