High School Rodeo team competes at Burwell

The Sheridan County High School Rodeo team competed at the home of Nebraska’s biggest rodeo this past weekend in Burwell. There was a rodeo on Saturday and one on Sunday. The team was slow to get going on Saturday, but on Sunday they all placed in multiple events and won the All-Around cowboy and cowgirl awards.

 

In the first rodeo on Saturday, Cati Stanko was seventh in the barrel race with a time of 18.929. The event was won by Kaylie Haun of Mitchell with a time of 18.241 seconds. Cati was second in the goat tying with a time of 8.80 seconds. Charmayne Strong was ninth with a time of 10.00. The event was won by Kelsey Knust of Verdigree with a time of 8.30 seconds.

On Sunday, the team got rolling and each placed in several events. Cati was second in the barrel race with a time of 18.276 seconds. The event was won by Sydney O’Daniel of Bennington with a time of 18.123.

Cati won the breakaway calf roping with a time of 2.70 seconds. Charmayne roped her calf in 2 seconds also, but took a 10 second barrier penalty with her to put her out of placing.

Charmayne was second in the goat tying with a time of 8.51 seconds. The event was won by Murphy Haun of Mitchell with a time of 8.18 seconds. Cati Stanko won the pole bending with a time of 21.109 seconds. Charmayne placed sixth with a time of 21.850 seconds.

David Hinman was the steer wrestling champion with a time of 7.84 seconds. David also placed sixth in the tie down roping with a time of 15.83 seconds. The event was won by Reed Kraeger of Avoco with a time of 12.88 seconds.

Both David and Charmayne placed in the team roping. The steers were really fast and there were very few catches on both ends. David and his pardner Tanner Stec of Bassett were fourth with a time of 15.060 seconds. Charmayne and her pardner Emily Vinton of Whitman were fifth with a time of 19.33 seconds. The event was won by Savanna Jamison of Ashby and Denum Santero of Minatare with a time of 11.15 seconds.

On Sunday, David Hinman was the All-Around Cowboy and Cati Stanko was the All-Around Cowgirl. Way to go team Sheridan County. Next week: on to Madison and Atkinson.
