Stanko All-Around Cowgirl at Thedford

Last weekend was a busy weekend for the high school rodeo team with a rodeo in Stapleton, Thedford and Mullen. The arenas were really deep sand and some of the timed event horses really struggled to put together a good run. It is getting close to the end, so everyone is pushing to finish strong to get points for state qualification.

At Stapleton on Friday, Cati Stanko place eighth in the barrel race with a time of 17.621 seconds. The event was won by Kaylie Haun of Mitchell with a time of 17.280. Cati also placed second in the pole bending with a time of 21.372 seconds. The event was won by Kaylie Haun of Mitchell with a time of 20.954 seconds.

David Hinman placed fourth in the steer wrestling with a respectable time of 5.89 seconds. The event was won by Peter Walnofer of Chambers with a quick time of 4.73 seconds. David and Cati both placed in the team roping. David and his pardner Tanner Stec of Bassett were second with a time of 13.610 seconds. Cati and her pardner Blayne Bradley of Milburn were fourth with a time of 14.69 seconds.

On Saturday the team went to Thedford. Cati continued her domination in the Goat tying by winning it with a time of 7.34 seconds. Charmayne placed ninth with a time of 9.35 seconds. Cati also won the breakaway calf roping with a quick time of 2.48 seconds. Cati placed second in the pole bending with a time of 21.491 seconds. On Sunday, the team moved to Mullen were the sand was even deeper. The sand made it hard for the speed events if the horses are not used to running in deep sand. It was hard running and goat tying with the goats legs stuck deep in the sand.

Cati won the breakaway calf roping with a quick time of 2.78 seconds. She also placed seventh in the goat tying with a time of 9.72 seconds. The event was won by Erin Van Horn of Page with a time of 8.52 seconds.

David Hinman placed third in the steer wrestling with a time of 5.3 seconds. The event was won by Rhett Nelson with a time of 4.79 seconds. David and Charmayne both placed in the team roping. The event was won by Blaine and Doug Finney of Ainsworth and Anselmo with a quick time of 7.92. Charmayne and her pardner Emily Vinton of Whitman were fourth with a time of 9.49 seconds. David and his pardner Tanner Stec of Bassett were fifth with a time of 13.39 seconds.

At Thedford, Cati Stanko was the All-Around cowgirl and won a trophy saddle. Thedford is one of the few rodeos who gives a saddle to the All-Around cowgirl and cowboy. Brody Cleveland of Keystone was the All-Around cowboy.

Next week, the team will be competing close to home with rodeos in Mitchell, Harrison and Crawford. This will conclude the regular season of rodeos. The top thirty contestants will be competing at the state finals in Hastings June 20 - 23. The top four contestants in each event after the state finals will be entitled to compete at the National Finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Good luck to David, Cati and Charmayne as they try to finish strong.
