OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The University of Nebraska at Omaha is officially a full-fledged member of NCAA Division I.
The NCAA Division I Board of Directors this week elected Omaha to active Division I membership. This completes the four-year reclassification of the school’s athletic program.
The Mavericks now are eligible for Division I championship in all sports beginning this year. All teams that compete in the Summit League also are eligible for league championship play.
Athletic director Trev Alberts said the Omaha program is a “relevant, fiscally responsible member of the campus community” that is now “bringing real value to our campus.”
