Mustangs dominate Western Trails Conference Tournament

The Gordon-Rushville Mustangs dominated the Western Trails Conference Tournament this weekend as both the boys and girls routed all opponents on their way to first place.

The Lady Mustangs swept the tournament with an average margin of 17.3 points. They started their dominance Thursday with a 62-48 win over Morrill on the road. They then defeated top-seed Hemingford 85-70 to advance to the championship game, where they beat Kimball 60-39, leaving no doubt who the conference champions were.

The boys followed suit, blowing out Bayard at home in the opening round 65-36. The Mustangs then took down Hemingford 68-44 to advance to the championship game against top-seeded Bridgeport. The 17-2 Bulldogs were never able to rebound from a strong Mustangs start, and the Mustangs took the boys championship 40-34.
