Sheridan County Wrestlers Unable to Remain in Championship Bracket Through Day One

As the sun sets on day one of the Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament, all five Sheridan County wrestlers find themselves in the consolation bracket going into day two.

Gordon-Rushville has four Mustangs competing in the tournament this year.

At 113 pounds, Quin Child (27-18) pinned St. Paul’s Jacob Paczosa (29-13) in 4:33 to go on to fall to Talon Mues of Arlington (42-4) in 2:54 in the quarterfinals. Child will now wrestle in round two of the consolation rounds late Friday morning.

At 120 pounds, Hayden Hoos (25-18) fell to Jackson Bates of Wilber-Clatonia (45-2) in 2:55 in round one. He will now face Cristian Carranza in the first consolation round Friday morning.

At 132 pounds, Logan Belskey (34-12) pinned Troy Vanderheiden of Central City (17-8) in 2:53. In the quarterfinals, Belsky lost to Caden Moore of O’Neill (21-4) 7-4. He will now wrestle in round two of the consolation bracket.

At 152 pounds, Shane Child (29-13) fell to Conner Kramer of Battle Creek (40-8) in 1:19.

Hay Springs’ Jake Johnson (38-12) was pinned by Matthew Sweet (30-14) in 3:19 in the first round at 145 pounds. He will now face Marshal Holtzclaw (26-17) in the first round of wrestlebacks Friday afternoon.
