Hay Springs senior Jake Johnson earned the right to be part of the 2016 State Wrestling Tournament in Omaha this past weekend by getting second at Districts the weekend prior. Jake ended his high school wrestling career with a 1-2 record in Omaha.

The wrestling began on Thursday afternoon for Class D. Jake’s first match was against senior Mathew Sweet from Franklin. Jake found himself in a pinning hold with 41 seconds left in the second period.

On Friday afternoon, Jake’s hopes of advancing on into the State Tournament stayed alive by beating junior Marshal Holtzclaw of Thayer Central 11-7. He then turned around and wrestled junior Tanner Coufel of Howells-Dodge. He was eliminated from the tournament, losing 16-1.

Jake finishes his senior year with a 39-13 record.
