The Gordon-Rushville Lady Mustangs played an exciting game of basketball on Tuesday, Feburary 14, in Alliance versus the Chadron Cardinals. The Mustangs went into their first round of subdistricts with a record of 16-6. Chadron had a record of 11-11.
This matchup kept fans on their toes during the entire game. The first quarter was a low scoring one with the score being 6-4 in favor of Gordon-Rushville. During the second quarter, the Mustangs struggled with the Cardinal offense, and Chadron gained a lead of 14-12 going into half time.
Once into the third quarter, Chadron added onto their lead with a score of 20-12. It took the Mustangs a while to get warmed back up, but one three-pointer by Josie Perez turned the game around, and the Mustangs scored six more points during that quarter. The score was 24-21 in favor of Chadron. During the next quarter, Gordon-Rushville made their comeback by scoring 16 points compared to Chadron’s four. Much to the delight of Mustang fans, the final score was 37-28.
Josie Perez scored the most Mustang points with 25. Next were Kenna Campbell, Carlee Hinn, and Jacobie Knight each scoring 4 points.
The win advanced the Gordon-Rushville girls farther into subdistrict play where they would face Mitchell.
