The fall high school rodeo season started last weekend with two rodeos in Bassett. This starts the rodeo year with earning points to carry into state. The Sheridan County team consists of junior Charmayne Strong of Rushville, sophomore Jessica Bragg of Gordon and freshman Cody Darnell of Gordon. Brock Henry of Rushville will be competing at some of the later rodeos. Cati Stanko and David Hinman have moved on to college on full rodeo scholarships. Cati is going to Oklahoma and David to Colorado. We wish them the best of luck as they continue rodeoing at the college level.
Cody Darnell started out his high school rodeo season with a placing in the team roping. Cody and his pardner JT Adamson of Cody placed fourth in the team roping with a time of 9.11 seconds. The event was won by Reece Weber of Valentine and Tate Mathis of Atkinson with a time of 7.13 seconds.
Charmayne Strong placed tenth in the pole bending with a time of 22.551 seconds. The event was won by Kaylie Haun of Mitchell with a time of 21.598. Charmayne also placed ninth in the breakaway calf roping at the first rodeo.
The second rodeo on Sunday, Charmayne placed sixth in the pole bending with a time of 21.986 seconds. The event was won once again by Kaylie Haun of Mitchell with a time of 20.971. Next weekend the team travels to Lexington for two rodeos.
