The Board of Education of Hay Springs Public Schools District #3 held its regular meeting on February 10, 2014 at the school cafeteria. Notice of the said meeting was published in the January 22, 2014 edition of the Sheridan County Journal Star. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Langford. Posting for Open Meeting Law was pointed out. All motions received unanimous approval unless otherwise stated. Present – Matt Anderson, Mike Hunzeker, Miriam Kearns, Everette Langford, and Marilyn Reed. Brenda Johnson arrived at 7:03 p.m. Superintendent Pummel was also present. Supt’s Report: The auditorium repairs are complete; there are several pieces of legislation that we are watching: LB952 - Reading Intervention; LB725 -reduces local effort rate $1.03 to $1.00; LB682 - Allied school districts; LB923 - suicide prevention and awareness. Principal’s Report: The testing schedule was presented and reviewed; Letters are out to past sponsors, daycares, churches; Teachers have been invited to sponsor fun camps and/or teach summer remediation classes. Public Comment: Glen Muhr - 3 questions - 1. Have you ever held a public hearing on your parental involvement policy? 2. Who is on the Americanism committee? 3. Have you ever held a public hearing on the student fees policy? Muhr stated that statute requires you to have public hearings on these topics. Langford referred Muhr to the chain of command and directed him to address these topics with the Superintendent. Board Comment: None. A motion was made by Johnson and seconded by Anderson to approve the minutes of January 13, 2014 regular meeting. A motion was made by Reed and seconded by Kearns to approve the agenda of the February 10, 2014 meeting. The Lister-Sage board discussed keypads on some of the inner doors. Keypads that the lumber yard has available are not compatible with the doors. Keypads were put on hold and will be revisited later. The new camera system shows by who and when those doors are accessed. A motion was made by Reed and seconded by Kearns to approve the bids as presented: Brad & Brenda Johnson – 2 lights @ $67.50 each and George Christensen – remaining 7 lights @ $40 each: (Abstain-Johnson). After considering the posts on facebook, input from the community and staff, and much discussion, Johnson made a motion and seconded by Kearns to approve the 2014-15 Calendar Proposal #1 : (No-Hunzeker). A motion was made by Johnson and seconded by Hunzeker to approve the bills and payroll as presented. The meeting adjourned at 8:03 p.m. The following bills were approved:
