The Sheridan County Commissioners met in regular session at 9 A.M. in the Commissioners Office, Courthouse. All members present. Paul stated that the meeting would be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Nebraska Open Meeting Act. Messersmith made a motion to accept the agenda. Krotz seconded the motion. All voted aye. Krotz made a motion to approve the minutes of 4-15-2019. Messersmith seconded the motion. All voted aye.
The board signed salary checks and audited and approved salary claims. General-$197,573.78; Road-$113,265.82; Weed-$5,071.71; Total $315,911.31.
The board reviewed an audit resolution prepared by the Clerk. No action taken.
The Jail Inspection was re-scheduled until May 13, 2019.
Weed Superintendent Kristi Paul presented the board with a letter for consideration. Krotz made a motion to sign the letter addressing an invoice for Prairie Dog Control by the USDA Wildlife Services. Messersmith seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
Road Superintendent Kuester showed the board pictures of the water problems down south. Brenneman was to start hauling today but is unable to get into the pit. As soon as possible he will begin on the Pleasant Point road and then continue to the Nielsen road.
Kuester visited with the board about the availability of used bulldozers to replace the 1981 D-7 that was destroyed in the recent flooding. Krotz made a motion to authorize the Road Superintendent to spend up to $70,000 in addition to the insurance settlement of $44,500, to replace the dozer lost to flooding to meet the emergency repair needs. Messersmith seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
Cyndi Richardson of JAG Professional Services meet with the board to discuss the budget preparation services offered by her firm.
UNL Extension Service Unit Leader Jenny Nixon visited with the board on storm and flood recovery services being offered. The Extension Service has launched a website regarding recovery resoures. ( flood.unl.edu) Nixon also informed the board of some changes in the office positions.
