Special Meeting Hay Springs City Council December 29, 2020


Mayor Richard McKay called the Special Meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. Council persons Luke Marcy and Marvin Blundell were present in person. Keith Kearns was present via teleconference. City Attorney Jamian Simmons was absent.  It was noted that the Open Meetings Act is posted. 

Council Member Vacancy: Erin Huth, Brant Buettner and Glen Muhr were present and expressed an interest in filling the Council Member vacancy for the City of Hay Springs. Mayor McKay explained to those present that he would like each person to inform the Council why they are interested in filling the vacant position. 

Erin Huth began, stating she is interested in the vacant Council Member position to continue positively impacting the town her children are growing up in. She is active on the Chamber and has been active on other Boards within the community. She believes those in leadership roles should be passionate about keeping this community moving forward and would like to be a part of that continued effort. 

Brant Buettner was next, stating he is interested in the vacant Council Member position because he was born and raised in this community, he is raising his children within the community, and would like to see forward progress continue to be made in bettering several aspects of this town. Improvements are still a viable need and he would like to stand behind those projects with the City.

Glen Muhr was the final interested community member, stating he has lived here for 8 ½ years and has recently moved part of his family into this community. He has Board experience and listed those references. He noted that his genuine care for this community coincides with his agreement that there is a need for improvements as the City is financially able to progress forward. He commended the Chamber for their efforts in bringing back a much needed resource for this town. Ending with his observations of some pivotal roles the City has to ensure this community successfully continues to thrive in the future. 

Executive Session: Marcy made motion to go into Executive Session at 7:13 p.m. to protect the reputations of those involved. Blundell seconded. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Marcy made motion to exit Executive Session at 7:22 p.m. Blundell seconded. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Council Member Vacancy: Mayor McKay explained to those present that he will call their names in the order in which they informed him of their interest to fill the vacant Council Member position. The Council will vote accordingly and once the Council approves an individual the voting will cease.

Erin Huth: All voted nay. Motion carried.

Brant Buettner: All voted aye. Motion carried.

Glen Muhr: Voting ceased. 

Mayor McKay and the Council thanked those present for expressing their interest in filling the vacant Council Member position and encouraged them to continue actively supporting this community. 

Kearns made motion, Marcy seconded to adjourn at 7:27 p.m.  All voted aye. Motion carried.
