Staff and residents at Gordon’s Countryside Care got creative with rocks as they partook in the community-building Gordon Rock Stars group.
On Wednesday, September 20, Countryside Care residents congregated in their worship room to partake in a motivational activity. Kaci Hilliker started the Gordon group and talked about the process. “We color our rocks however we want to,” said Hilliker. “It can be a design, scribbles of color, a saying or a joke, and then we hide them somewhere for other people to find and brighten their day.”
Some residents used nail polish while others used paint to decorate their rocks. Residents wrote words of encouragement like “Make me your buddy” and “Life is tough and so are you!”
Younger members of the community also painted rocks alongside the residents. At one point, Sherisse Strout’s daughter Sylvia helped write on Mark Colwell’s rock and Hannah Graham, Director of Social Services and Activities Director said that interaction will be a subject of conversation for several days. “It’s a cool project to see it get going and it gets them out seeing people,” said Graham.
