A Sheridan County-Wide Housing Study with Strategies for Affordable Housing is being conducted by the City of Gordon Planning Commission (GPC), with the guidance of a County-Wide Housing Steering Committee and the assistance of Hanna:Keelan Associates. The Study is funded by a Housing Grant provided by the Nebraska Investment Finance Authority, with matching funds from several local entities.
The County-Wide Housing Study will include important population, income and economic data, a housing stock analysis, strategies for affordable housing development, a “Five-Year Housing Action Plan”, for both new and rehabilitated housing, and funding options for both future owner and rental housing developments.
A series of “Housing Listening Sessions” and both a “Citizen Housing Survey” and a “Workforce Housing Needs Survey” will be conducted for the County-Wide Housing Study. The Sheridan County citizenry will be encouraged to attend and participate in these activities
According to Jacob Sheridan, Gordon City Manager, “Once completed, the Housing Study should attract a host of both public and private entities to facilitate and implement new and improved housing throughout Sheridan County. The Study will address the housing needs and wants of the entire citizenry of the County, including all age and income household sectors. Special attention will be given to determining the need for varied housing types for the County’s workforce, elderly households, families, special needs populations and the potential for additional housing in our Communities”.
The Sheridan County-Wide Housing Study will be completed with the assistance of Hanna:Keelan Associates, P.C., a Nebraska based community planning and research consulting firm. The Firm is in its 40th year of serving Nebraska Communities and Counties. Hanna:Keelan works extensively in northwestern Nebraska preparing comprehensive plans, zoning regulations, housing studies, downtown and redevelopment plans and assisting communities in building both family and elderly housing.
