Over the weekend, shoppers entering the Shopko store in Gordon were greeted by a sign that read “Attn. Customers: Due to our future store closing, we can no longer offer Institutional Charges. We are sorry for any inconvenience that may cause you. (Post 9/20)”
According to Michelle Hansen, Manager, Public Relations & Shopko Foundation, Shopko Stores Operating Co., LLC, the Gordon store will begin liquidation on Thursday, September 27 and will close on Saturday, December 22. Shopko has 30 stores in Nebraska, and the Gordon store is one of two that are closing. The Ogallala store is also closing, after being open since December of 2012.
Hansen stated, “Despite all of the stores’ efforts as we reviewed the long-term outlook on profitability, sales trends, and potential growth, we came to the difficult decision that it was necessary to close these stores. Shopko will assist those who are interested in transferring to open positions at other locations, or will provide severance benefits according to our guidelines. I do not have any details (regarding) future plans for the building.”
The doors to the Gordon Shopko opened in November of 2016.
