Fred and Nancy Russell named SCF&R Grand Marshals

Your 2021 Sheridan County Fair & Rodeo Grand Marshals are no strangers to volunteering here in Sheridan County.

Fred and Nancy Russell from Gordon have been given the designation for the 2021 festivities; an honor that is well-deserved.

Even though the couple is not originally from Gordon, they have spent the past 47+ years here in Sheridan County giving back to the area that has given them so much.

“The area has been wonderful to us, we left for 2 years, but it did not take us long to figure where we wanted to be and that’s a testament to the people here,” said Fred Russell.

The Russell’s are familiar faces all around town, volunteering their time to the community for a variety of events. And the Fair & Rodeo is one of their favorite events to help out with.

“It is the future of Sheridan County. Kids need to learn work ethic and there is something for everybody out there at the Fair,” said Nancy Russell.

“The rodeo is a celebration,” says Fred Russell.

“With haying usually finishing up for the summer, it was a chance to celebrate the end of haying season and it was a good excuse to get together,” he added.

When asked why volunteering is such an important part of their lives, Fred has a very simple answer.

“We are indebted to the community,” he says.

The pair is truly honored with the designation and look forward to being in the Parade on Saturday.

But do not expect them to be sitting down for too long, there are things that need to get done!
