A new face is ready to begin her tenure as Principal for Hay Springs Public Schools.
Tera Digmann is that new face in the Principal’s office, and the Sturgis, S.D. native is ready to get to work.
Digmann attended Sturgis High School before heading off to Black Hills State for her Bachelor’s Degree in English Teaching.
She wasted no time continuing her education once she began her first job teaching 9th grade English, picking up her Masters Degree in Reading Curriculum and Instruction.
Digmann has since added endorsements in Curriculum Supervision and PreK-12 Administration.
Recently, Digmann was at Alliance High School in the Assistant Principal role before accepting this position at Hay Springs.
There is no denying when you follow her education that Digmann has a strong background in curriculum.
“I have a really strong curriculum background and part of my goals are to get that curriculum alignment back in place,” said Digmann.
“Our teachers work really hard here and I can use my experience to streamline the process,” she added.
In addition to the curriculum, Digmann notes some changes to the discipline matrix as an another point of emphasis.
Digmann looks to create a really positive culture within the walls and making sure that everyone is part of one team; from Pre-K to 12th grade.
“The students asked for a little more consistency in discipline and I’m really big on consistency,” said Digmann.
“I’m bringing in this discipline matrix so what happens to one student, happens to every student along the way,” she added.
New perspectives or ideas are always a good thing but Digmann also acknowledges she is getting the keys to a very successful education system.
And she notes, that’s one of the reasons she pursued the position.
“I always look at scores and the scores here are great and the teachers work hard,” said Digmann.
“This is a great District to move into because I can focus on the things I need to focus on. There is a solid foundation that is already built in here,” she added.
When she is not working in her professional role, Digmann is quite the accomplished quilter.
Along with her daughter, the pair do a lot of quilting, including custom quilting and t-shirt quilts.
She also spends time reading, finishing 50-60 books each year.
You can also catch her bumping the hills in her lifted Jeep or relaxing at the lake with her husband and their two children.
