Robocalls to be made to Nebraska unclaimed property owners

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Beginning next week, the Nebraska State Treasurer’s Office will make automated, prerecorded phone calls to the home telephone numbers of Nebraskans and former Nebraskans who own unclaimed property.

State Treasurer Don Stenberg says the robocalls will begin on Monday. The messages will include information about how owners of unclaimed property can go about filing claims to get their property back.

Examples of unclaimed property include health claim payments, dividends, life insurance proceeds, stocks, safety deposit boxes and unused gift certificates.

The treasurer’s office is holding more than $135 million in unclaimed property for 350,000 people, businesses and organizations. So far in 2015, nearly 11,000 claims totaling almost $6 million have been paid.
