Phyllis Jerene Janssen

Phyllis Jerene Janssen, 86 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Chadron Community Hospital. Phyllis was born on March 28, 1925, at Rushville, NE to Lloyd and Mabel (Tiensvold) Talbot. She graduated from Rushville High School in 1944. Phyllis was a very kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a wonderful cook which was clearly evident as she worked as a cook for 29 years for the Rushville Public Schools. She really enjoyed all the kids. She enjoyed belonging to a coffee club. Later in life she resided at Parkview Lodge Assisted Living and Pioneer Manor Nursing Home. She enjoyed all the employees and residents at both homes.

Phyllis married Melvin Janssen on April 26, 1947 in Rushville, Neb. They made their home in Rushville and three daughters and one son were born to this union. Phyllis is survived by her children Beverly (Ron) Fisher, Wanda (Ronald “Jiggs”) Viher, Dennis “Denny” (Anita) Janssen of Rushville, Neb., and Tammy (Luke) Stabnow of Alliance, Neb.; grandchildren: Lisa (Jeff) Milburn and Michele (Josh) Heck of Rushville, Neb., Greg (Angie) Fisher of Grand Island, Neb., Jason (Mindi) Viher of Rapid City, S.D., Janelle (Luke) Brennan and Kristina (Michael) Ziller of Highlands Ranch, Colo., George Viher of Rushville, Neb., Amanda Janssen of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Brad (Lisa) Janssen and Derek Janssen of Rushville, Neb., Sharla (Eric) Roth of Gordon, Neb, Jessica (Josh) Ellis of Grand Island, Neb., Nathan (Kaitlyn) Stabnow and John Stabnow of Alliance, Neb.. Her great-grandchildren, Jay, Andrew, and Aubrey Milburn of Rushville, Neb., Mitch, Danny, Trevor and Sydney Fisher of Grand Island, Neb., Caleb and Kirsten Heck of Rushville, Neb., Karli and Terrell Viher of Rapid City, S.D., Isis and Delila Brennan, Johnny, Joey, and another expectant Ziller grandchild in August, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Brioni, Kaydre, Jaedon and Taevyon Thompson of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Dylan, Kalynn, Justyn of Rushville, Neb., Wyatt Stabnow of Alliance, Neb.

She is also survived by sisters Geraldine Pearson, Patricia (Wayne) Speer, Doris (Ron) Lehman, and Lorna Lee (James) Kelley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Janssen, her parents Lloyd and Mabel Talbot, sisters Arlene Siders and Karen Lou, brothers Donald Talbot, James Talbot and David Talbot.

Pallbearers’: Jason Viher, Greg Fisher, Brad Janssen, Nathan Stabnow, George Viher, John Stabnow, and Derek Janssen, Phyllis’ grandsons.

Honorary Pallbearers’: Lisa (Fisher) Milburn, Janelle (Viher) Brennan, Amanda Janssen, Kristina (Viher) Ziller, Jessica (Stabnow) Ellis, and Michele (Fisher) Heck, Sharla (Janssen) Roth, Phyllis’ granddaughters.

Rosary was held March 13, 2012. Funeral services were held March 14, 2012. Both were held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rushville, Neb. with Fr. Tim Stoner officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Rushville, Neb.
