Roger Charles Kozal, 65, of Rushville, Neb., died Friday April 19, 2013, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs.
He was born October 10, 1947, in Rushville, to John and Maxine (Jacobson) Kozal. Roger spent his childhood and teen years living in Rushville before serving in The Army National Guard of Nebraska. He served from October 1965 and was honorably discharged in June of 1969.
After returning home, he worked for the Dakota Moccasin Corp. in Pine Ridge, S.D. He later began working for the Sheridan County Road Department with a brief stint as a Sheridan County Deputy before returning to the road department. He worked for the road department for several years before moving to Hot Springs, S.D., and began working for the V.A. Medical Center. He later returned to Rushville and began working for Hollibaugh Trucking of Chadron, Neb., until he retired.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting arrowheads and maybe most of all, chatting with others. After retiring, he volunteered to transport veterans from the county to the V.A. Medical Center as well as volunteering at the museum.
He was preceded in death by his father John Kozal, mother Maxine (Jacobson) Kozal and son John Stuart Kozal.
Survivors include his two sons Doug (Becky) Kozal of Alliance, Neb., Ryan (Sheila) Kozal of Rushville, Neb., and daughter Lindsey (Rocky) Rawles of Gordon, Neb., brother Stuart (Karen) Kozal of Rusvhille, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday April 24, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Rushville, with Reverend Fred Andersen officiating. Burial will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Rushville, Neb.
Pallbearers will be John Fowler, Allen Koss, Jack Kimble, Duane Ashmore, George Sweeney and David Lehman.
The family suggests memorials be donated to the Rushville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad or the Rushville American Legion Post #161 and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366 Gordon, NE 69343.
