Roger H. Richardson, 78, of Hay Springs, died at his home on April 26, 2012.
Roger was born on October 6, 1933 in Lyman, NE to Jack and Dorothy Richardson. He and his family farmed in Lyman until spring 1947 when they moved to the Mirage Flats area where he acquired his passion for farming and ranching. He graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1951 and married Geraldine “Jerre” Morrison of Alliance on December 25, 1952. After successful tenant farming for 5 years, he was able to purchase his farm in1958. In 1965, Roger received Outstanding Young Farmer awarded by the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce in recognition of exceptional progress in agriculture and contributions to the community.
Roger enjoyed his family and friends immensely and was known for his dynamic sense of humor and storytelling. He enjoyed nature, reading, hunting, and Western and Native American history.
Roger is survived by his daughters Rogene Ashley and husband Mike, Cyndi Richardson, Angel Franey and husband Mick, Amy Richardson, and son Ryan Richardson and wife Kelly. He is also survived by grandchildren Banner (Brian), Talia (Brett), Courtney (Doug), Chace, Clarissa, Brittney, and “soon to be born” Autumn; and great-grandchildren Alex, Paytyn, Brylan, Matt, and “soon to be born” Baby Boy Boggard. Roger also leaves his sister Sharon Nelson and husband Carl of Loveland, CO, numerous nieces, grandnieces, nephews, and grandnephews, and dear friend Cathy Burbach of Rushville, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Dorothy Richardson, wife Jerre Richardson, and grandson Jake Green of Alliance.
Funeral Services for Roger Richardson of Hay Springs, will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Mirage Flats, south of Hay Springs. Pam Anderson, PMA and Pat Runkle, PMA will officiate. Burial services will be at the Mirage Flats Cemetery.
