Ruth Janssen, 90, of Gordon went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Gordon Countryside Nursing Home.
Ruth and her twin brother Robert were born at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Paul of Gordon on Sept 21, 1922. Their parents were Walter and Rose Hoos. Their mother passed away when they were thirteen years old and Walter later married Iva Barth.
On July 25th, 1942 she married John Janssen of Rushville in Lexington, South Carolina. Ruth and John made their home on a farm twelve miles northwest of Rushville, and to this union five children were born: Barbara, Benny, Patricia, Robert and William. They moved into Rushville in 1962.
Ruth was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother. She thoroughly enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.
Ruth was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 161 for fifty plus years, and at one time served as the President. She loved baking and cooking for her family, especially the grandchildren. Ruth’s door was always open for the young people, and if you needed a friend to confide in. Later in life she resided at Parkview Apartments, Parkview Assisted Living and Gordon Countryside Care Nursing Home. She enjoyed the employees and residents.
Ruth is survived by her children Barb Spease of Rushville, Benny (Judy) Janssen of Rushville, Pat Wages of Sioux Falls, SD, Bob (Cricket) Janssen of Crookston, Neb. and Bill (Jackie) Janssen of Litchfield, Neb.; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a great- great- granddaughter, plus many nieces and nephews, many neighbors and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, parents Walter, Rose and step-mother Iva, grandson Bryan, great grandson Seth and all her siblings.

Memorial services were held Wednesday June 26, 2013, 10:00am at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home with Reverend Travis Sherman officiating. Inurnment burial was held in Fairview Cemetery, Rushville, NE.
