Sheryl Ann Allen, 68, Rapid City, SD, formerly of Gordon, NE, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospice of the Hills. Sheryl was born on October 27, 1945 at Mare Island, N.A.S. in Vallejo, CA, to Henry and Carolyn (Haag) Stanko. She was united in marriage to Clifford Allen on November 2, 1968 in Casper, WY. After several years of living in Nebraska and North Dakota, Cliff and Sheryl moved to Rapid City in 1990. Sheryl enjoyed giving back to her community which included volunteering at the Journey Museum, Cornerstone Mission, and being active in her church, St. Therese the Little Flower. She appreciated the visual and performing arts such as ballet, operas, symphonies, and various genres of music, especially Elvis. She also enjoyed nature and all its beauty and actively participated in the annual Crazy Horse Volksmarch. Her other hobbies included reading, book collecting, rooting for the Denver Broncos, watching movies, and dining out with friends. Last, Sheryl was always proud of her Wyoming roots and her Polish heritage.
Sheryl is survived by her husband, Clifford of Rapid City; one daughter, Teresa ‘Tracy’ Allen of Denver; two sons, Casey Joe Allen and Duane Rocky Allen of Rapid City; her mother, Carolyn Stanko of Casper, WY; one brother, Henry Stanko, Jr, of Lebanon, OR; two grandsons Alyosha and Maksim, and two granddaughters, Hope and Briseis, all of Rapid City. She was preceded in death by her father Henry Stanko, Sr.
A Rosary Service was held at 5:00 pm on Friday, November 15, 2013, followed by visitation from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, all at Kirk Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Therese the Little Flower with Fr. Bill Zandri as celebrant. Private family inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date.
