Willard ‘Willie’ Keller, 86, of Gordon, died January 27, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 23, 1927 to Guy and Maude Keller in Hyannis, Nebraska. Willie graduated from Gordon High School in 1945. He then enlisted in the US Army and served with the Army Engineers in Korea from May 14, 1946, to November 3, 1947.
Willie married Evelyn Sones, October 24, 1948, in a double wedding ceremony with Lyle and Joyce Sones. He owned Keller’s Safeway, worked for Ross Transfer and was with the US Postal Service from 1956 to 1986.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gordon. He also volunteered with the Gordon Fire Department for 25 years.
He loved fishing, camping, hunting, traveling, dancing, and being with family. He deeply loved his great-grandchildren.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Andrew Keller and Maude Gincy Ridgeway Keller, sisters; Lenis Keller and Thelma Keller, brothers; Ray Keller, Owen Keller and Bernard (Bing) Keller, his brothers and sisters-in-law Callona Boyer Keller, Mable Diamond Keller, Francis Bermingham, Lillian Sones Latshaw, Erwin Latshaw, Lee Sones and Kathleen Gardner Sones, and nephews; Mark Keller, Dennis Sones and Glen Sones.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn, daughter Jeanette Keller Graber, granddaughter Christian (Drew) Delane, great-grandchildren Silvie and Adam Delane, sister Doris Bermingham, sister-in-law Norma Keller, brother-in-law Lyle (Joyce) Sones, nieces and nephews Sid (Adrian) Keller, Dan (Judith) Keller, Laverna (Gary) Paul, Andy (Judy) Keller, Willis (Ardith) Keller, Tom (Cathy) Bermingham, Jack (Gerry) Bermingham, Cheryl (Shane) Stratton, Lenis Keller-Salazar, Carol (Richard) Freudenberg, Roger Latshaw, Ron (Kathy) Sones, Linda (Ron) Langer, Gary (Roxie) Sones, Dwaine (Peg) Sones, Rod (Robin) Sones and many great-nieces and nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
Memorial services were held Saturday, February 1, 2014, 10:00am, at the First Presbyterian Church, in Gordon, Nebraska, with Reverend Debra Kromis officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors was held in the Gordon Cemetery.
